Last Thursday evening, the JV Statesmen football team fell 33-14 to the Chargers of Central High School.
The game started out as a battle of turnovers as both teams could not get the sticks moving on offense. Central was the first to attack with a touchdown on a heavy dosage of run plays.
The Statesmen answered back in the second quarter with a fumble recovery by Trequan Agnew for a touchdown.
“This was the spark that kept our boys alive as they continued to fight the entire night”, said coach Michael Goode.
The Chargers would continue to find the end zone, but this time through the passing game.
Randolph-Henry would also have success throwing the football as Bryson Parnell connected with Trequan Agnew for a 60-yard touchdown.
“We saw mismatches all night from Central’s defensive backs and our wide receivers made some good plays as a result” said coach Josh Barmoy.
After the game coach Mark Heinzleman said “We made some mental mistakes that cost us in the long run. We saw a lot of positives tonight and our focus is now on Bluestone”.
The Randolph-Henry Statesmen will return to action as they host Bluestone High School on Thursday at 6 p.m. in another James River Conference battle.
