On Tuesday, Nov. 3, you have three candidates for a position on the Board of Supervisors representing the Drakes Branch precinct. I ask you to seriously look at the candidate who is most qualified to represent you, the citizens of the Drakes Branch precinct.
I was elected to the board in 2003, and I have represented this district in a dignified manner by doing the right thing for the right reason. My concern has always been what the best is for the citizens in this district and the county as a whole. I attended public schools in Charlotte County. I graduated from Bluefield College with a bachelors of science degree in business organizational management and development.
I served in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve (called to active duty and served in Operation Enduring Freedom, Global War on Terror). I continued to serve until 2014, when I became fully retired from the Army.
I was an active member of the Drakes Branch Volunteer Fire Department serving for 25 years, 15 of those years as fire chief and now as a lifetime member.
I was a member of the Drakes Branch Town Council for over 10 years, prior to being on the board.
I am a member of Drakes Branch Baptist Church.
I am married to the former Julie Anne Golubic, of Crewe, and we have two grown children, Tiffany H. Russell and Garland H. “Gary” Hamlett, III. We also have five grandchildren.
Most of my life has been dedicated to serving my town, county, state and country. I believe in service to mankind. The board has had tough issues to deal with over the years and will continue to have possibly tougher issues that need a qualified and knowledgeable board member. I am that person who will do the job. I have done the job and will continue to work for the citizens in this district and the county.
Your vote is appreciated.
Authorized by Garland H. “Butch” Hamlett, for Board of Supervisors, Drakes Branch precinct.
