VDOT discusses plans for Crafton’s Gate

Several weeks ago a rough two-vehicle accident occurred at Crafton’s Gate, located at the intersection of Hwy. 360 and 47, bringing up more questions and concerns about the intersection.
Charlotte County Board of Supervisors Chairman commented on the issue, saying, “We need some answers down there.”
Many are confused as to why the intersection has not been changed since it seems to be a dangerous junction. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Communications Manager Paula Jones says that concerned residents should know that VDOT began a road safety assessment at the intersection recently.
“We are looking at accidents and trends in an effort to determine if incidents that have occurred have a common cause or if each is isolated.”
In 2014, four crashes (consisting of three angle-type and a rear end-type crash) occurred at the location. As of July 31, four crashes have occurred at the intersection this year as well.
All of those incidents consisted of angle-type crashes, according to VDOT.
