Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity basketball teams’ season came to an end last week during the Courthouse Conference 37 tournament.
The boys team edged Chatham 59-55 in the first round of the tournament, but they were stopped in the second round when Dan River took a 57-32 win over the Statesmen team.
The Lady Statesmen fell 52-43 to Dan River in the first round of the tournament.
Tremaine Pugh led the Statesmen in their Chatham game with 17 points. Sam Williams followed with 16, while Dajour Davis notched 15.
The Statesmen held on in their game against Dan River, up until the last two minutes of the first half when Dan River made a 9-0 run on R-H turnovers. Randolph-Henry could not come back in the second half.
Pugh also was the scoring leader in that game with nine points.
“The team really began to make progress at the end of the season. The game against Chatham should not have been that close … Against Dan River, the last two minutes of the first half took us out of the game,” said varsity boys coach James Graves.
“Overall, we have been a highly competitive team this year. We will build on what we learned this season to improve next season. We are very young and next year we will also be young. The difference will be is that we will be more experienced.”
The varsity boys team ends its season 3-17, while the Lady Statesmen finish 2-17.
