On Thursday, Randolph-Henry Student Maggie Adams signed a National Letter of Intent to play women’s golf at Longwood University.

“That’s an incredible accomplishment in itself,” said Randolph-Henry’s Athletic Director and Assistant Principal Christopher Holt.

Holt said Adams is an exceptional student at the high school and holds a 3.5 GPA. He said she represents the ideal image of a student-athlete at Randolph-Henry. “I see her in the hallway daily and she always has a smile on her face,” Holt said. “She’s got a zest for life and energy about her that’s

contagious and I know that Longwood University is going to be certainly blessed to have her with them for four years.”

Holt said Adams displayed a great amount of power and velocity when coming off the tee at a past golf tournament during the year. “I also know that one of the things about her that I’ve seen over the years is she is a true fierce competitor,” said Holt. “She loves to compete.”

He said Adams prepares to be the best she can be.

In addition, Adams was the only female to play on the 2015 Randolph-Henry Golf Team.

Coach Larry Dunn said there had not been many females on the team in previous years either. “I was sort of wondering how the guys were going to take you, but by your worth ethic you’ve made us a better team in many ways,” said Dunn to Adams.

Coach Kelly Powell said that Adams has the gift of passion, which can not be coached. “This is something hopefully everybody will work hard to have . . .”

He said passion can not be taken away.

According to Dunn, it is a rarity to have a Division One school interested in golf. “Maggie is sort of the pathfinder for us.”

Maggie Adams is the daughter of Mike and Rhonda Adams of Abilene.
