R-H improves to 4-0 overall

The varsity Statesmen baseball team is off to a hot start as they have outscored their opponents 45-5.

In the first game of the season, the Statesmen welcomed Central to Bankston Field and came away with a 14-0 victory. Offensively, the Statesmen were led at the plate by Cameron Vassar, Carter Strickland and Kendrik Goldman as they each had two hits.

In game two of the season, the Statesmen traveled to Bluestone for a matchup with the Barons. This was another well-pitched game as the Statesmen came away with a 10-0 victory. On the mound the Statesmen got a big performance from Strickland as he pitched a complete game shut-out. Strickland had 14 strikeouts and only gave up one hit.

The third game of the season saw the Statesmen travel to Goochland and come away with a 9-5 victory. Raleigh Duffer had a big game as he drove in four runs. Once again, the Statesmen got a good pitching performance from Vassar as he went six innings and had 12 strikeouts. Vassar is now 2-0 on the season. The last game before spring break saw the Statesmen take a 12-0 shutout over Amelia. Duffer pitched the entire shutout.

The Statesmen return to action on Thursday at 6 p.m. when they host Chatham.
