The Randolph-Henry High School BLOG (Be Leaders of Our Generation) Club recently won the Youth Alcohol Drug Abuse Prevention Project (YADAPP) 2016 Mini Grant at Longwood University. The team was composed of Chante Elam, JaKya Pettus and Katia Taylor.

“These young ladies felt the need to write a STAN Plan to keep teenagers from drinking at adult parties,” said club sponsor Karen Osborne.

“They plan to have dances and rap battles off campus on the weekends once a month at a central location to encourage and engage teenagers to hang out and have clean fun. With the funds from the social gatherings they wish to purchase or receive a building to hold local meetings for teenagers and parents to attend to discuss issues and concerns.”

Now that they have won the grant, the students must follow through with their plans and submit a final report along with pictures to be eligible to win the Wheeler Award in 2017.

There were approximately 85 schools represented from across Virginia. A total of 26 schools won a grant.

“I’m grateful for Mr. Tommy Jones and the Charlotte County Sheriff Department for sending a group, and Principal Robbie Mason for sending two groups this year to represent Randolph-Henry High. I’m proud of the performances of all of the groups that attended the conference,” Osborne said.
