William A. “Alex” Brown will not face any jail time nor pay any fines in conjunction with his alleged assault of a fellow county youth baseball coach in June.
During a short Sept. 22 hearing at the Charlotte County Courthouse, Brown learned a charge of misdemeanor assault against him was being nolle prossed — not prosecuted. He shook hands with his attorney, Gary Elder, before leaving the courtroom.
Brown allegedly hit another county youth coach from behind at a Dixie Youth baseball field in Charlotte Court House on June 7 — a game that neither coach was actually coaching. Drakes Branch baseball coach Ken Trent Jr. filed the complaint several days later.
Trent alleged Brown assaulted him from behind while he was on the phone, sending him to the ground before others restrained him.
Brown could have faced up to one year in prison and $2,500 in fines.
