Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity boys basketball team lost 69-57 to host Amelia County High School on Thursday in the Quad Rivers Conference 34 tournament quarterfinals.
The loss at the hand of the top-seeded Raiders ended the 2016-17 run of the No. 8 Statesmen.
R-H Head Coach James Graves liked what he saw from his team in its final contest, though.
“We played as hard as we’ve played all year,” he said. “There’s no question about that. We attacked the basket.”
The Statesmen led 17-15 after the first quarter, they trailed 35-34 at halftime and 50-39 after three quarters.
Jordan Jones led Randolph-Henry with 17 points, Tremaine Pugh had 16, Nasheim Pettus, who fouled out in the fourth quarter, had 14 and Sherrek Boyd had nine.
The Statesmen finished the season with an overall record of 9-11.
“I think, overall, we made a great deal of progress considering we won three games last year,” Graves said. “We could have been better. We could have won more games, but I think it was a learning experience, and the core of our team will be back next year, so hopefully, they’ve learned from that.”
