An accident at a sawmill at 3528 Woodfork Road in Charlotte Court House led to a juvenile being transported by helicopter to University of Virginia (U.Va.) Medical Center, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and the Charlotte County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
The sheriff’s office received the call at 4:15 p.m. Thursday reporting that a crosstie piece of wood had fallen on the neck of the juvenile.
The Charlotte County Volunteer Rescue Squad (CCVRS) responded to the reported incident, police said.
Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said a state trooper assisted in the incident.
Captain Bill Mayhew of CCVRS said two units responded to the incident.
Mayhew said first responders from Charlotte Court House and Drakes Branch also treated the juvenile on the scene, preparing him to be airlifted.
A Centra One helicopter had first airlifted the juvenile to a landing pad in Charlotte Court House, Mayhew said, where the juvenile was then transported by helicopter to U.Va. Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Geller also confirmed the male juvenile was taken to U.Va. Medical Center.
Attempts to obtain the condition of the juvenile were unsuccessful.
