The young 2017 Central Middle School (CMS) golf team has started the 2017 season with a 4-0 record.

The Bobcats are looking to produce a strong follow-up season after the 2016 squad went undefeated and won the Southside Middle School Conference Tournament.

Asked if the squad can be as good as past CMS teams, new Bobcats Head Coach Michael Adams said, “I would like to think so, but being as young as we are, it’s hard to guess or gauge that. We’ve got four sixth-graders. We’ve got two eighth-graders that have never played golf before, so that’s six of the nine. And the three returning players — I don’t know how much they played last year, but so far they’ve been a big help as far as getting these other kids ready for matches.”

Also providing key help is Adams’ daughter and former Randolph-Henry multi-sport standout Maggie Adams.

On Aug. 23, the Bobcats produced a 182 score to defeat Amelia, which shot a 260.

Leading the way for CMS were Bryson Francisco and Thomas Johnson, who each shot a 45. Lindsey Towery and Tucker Webb, each shooting a 46, Danner Allen shot a 49 and Macy Clements shot a 66.

Two days prior to that, the Bobcats defeated Park View 188-230.

Powhatan fell 191-211 to Central on Aug. 14, and to open the season, CMS edged Bluestone 207-210 on Aug. 7. Ben Gibbs and Sully Jones tied for the team’s top individual score in the opener, each shooting a 51. Johnson had a 52, Francisco had a 53, Austin Queensberry recorded a 57 and Towery logged a 59.
