Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity girls volleyball team improved to .500 on the season with a win Thursday, and the junior varsity (JV) squad notched its third victory of the year Oct. 5 against host Prince Edward.
The varsity Lady Statesmen, now 6-6, defeated host Central Lunenburg High School 3-0 on Thursday.
Two days prior, they fell 3-0 to visiting Amelia County High School, and on Oct. 5, they fought hard against host Prince Edward County High School, but they fell 3-2.
The junior varsity Lady Statesmen (3-9) lost 2-0 to host Central Lunenburg on Thursday and fell 2-1 to visiting Amelia on Oct. 10, but they shut out the Lady Eagles 2-0 on Oct. 5.
“The girls have been working very hard and it is paying off for them on the court,” JV Lady Statesmen Head Coach Sandy Mayhew said. “These girls have the capability of playing very well together. There are still some things we struggle with and that’s the JV level, but overall I am pleased how the team is coming together.”
She noted that her squad is doing well defensively, but there is still work to do on offense.
The Randolph-Henry JV and varsity teams host Goochland High School’s squads Thursday at 5:30 and 7 p.m., respectively.
