Closings and cancellations

A winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service cautions that people in the Charlotte and Campbell County areas may experience wet snow and accumulation.

“Snow spreading into the region through early this afternoon,” the National Weather Service Blacksburg station cited. “Snow may be mixed with rain at times before changing to all snow tonight. Greatest impact is expected tonight into early Saturday morning. Total snow accumulations of one to three inches can be expected in the central Virginia Piedmont, with two to three inches of snow accumulation in Floyd and Franklin Counties in Virginia.”

The advisory is expected to last from 4 p.m. today to 4 p.m. Saturday, the station cited.

Charlotte

The Randolph-Henry High School varsity and junior varsity boys basketball home games against Amherst County High School that were originally scheduled for Friday have been postponed. A reschedule date has not been determined at this time.

Lunenburg

Central High School, Lunenburg County: Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball games have been postponed until Dec. 13.

The Lunenburg County Christmas Parade has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Small Town Christmas, taking place Saturday, will continue as planned.

Prince Edward

Prince Edward County Schools have cancelled all afterschool activities and school-sponsored events for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Buckingham

Buckingham County High School has cancelled all afterschool activities and school-sponsored events for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
