Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity softball team suffered losses Thursday and April 18, but it opened its play last week with a big highlight in the form of an 11-1 home win over Cumberland County High School.
The victory was the first of the season for the Lady Statesmen. They produced an outstanding defensive performance, holding the Lady Dukes scoreless until the sixth inning.
“We hit the ball very well, advanced on Cumberland’s errors, and never let up,” R-H Assistant Coach Amy Hamlett said.
Among the individual standouts in the win were Alyssa Rapole and Cheyanne Newcomb, who each hit a triple. Players hitting a pair of singles include Hannah Pasciuta, Sarah Wilmoth, Leighan Payne and Macie Fannon.
R-H (1-10) hosts Prince Edward on Thursday at 6 p.m.
