Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity football team challenged host Central Lunenburg, which was celebrating homecoming, but Statesmen could not close the gap on the scoreboard in the second half, and the Chargers pulled away for a 49-12 victory.
After losing the first quarter 14-0, Randolph-Henry won the second, 12-7, making the halftime score 21-12.
“They were moving the ball really well on us,” Central Head Coach Will Thomas said, “but we stopped them in the second half. Our defense stepped up.”
Central won the third and fourth quarters, 14-0 each.
As a team, Randolph-Henry gained 235 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Senior Treymon Roberts led the way with 126 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.
The Statesmen (0-5) visit Nottoway on Friday at 7 p.m. and finish their homecoming game Monday at 6:30 p.m. against Amelia.
