The Southside Soil and Water Conservation District (SSWCD) has provided the following fall yard tips.

SSWCD said fight back the weeds with weed control and read the package label before using. Aerate the lawn so that oxygen and water can reach the roots and mulch the leaves with the lawn mower to enhance fertility in the soil. Additionally, toward the end of the season, lower the blade (of the mower) as this will allow sunlight to reach the grass.

Drain water from hoses, fountains and drip irrigation systems. Doing this and storing them in a dry place will prevent them from freezing and causing damage.

Continue mowing the lawn through the fall season.

Raking the leaves not only keeps your yard looking clean but also keeps the grass from suffocating under the leaves.

Fertilize the lawn in fall for a healthy start in spring.
