The Randolph-Henry High School varsity girls tennis team won all three first-week matches of its 2019 regular season with the score of 9-0, piling up 27 individual and doubles victories.
The Lady Statesmen topped visiting Appomattox County High School on March 11, then shut out visiting Prince Edward County High School the next day and routed visiting Buckingham County High School on Thursday.
Randolph-Henry Head Coach Deborah Laine is excited for the winning tradition of Lady Statesmen girls tennis to continue, having lost only one senior last year and bringing five of her top six players back this year.
Last year, the Lady Statesmen advanced to the Region 2A tournament semifinals in both team and individual singles play. Doubles team Grace Algeier and Annie Sandridge finished as regional runner-up.
In the 2019 season opener Monday, March 11, Algeier, a sophomore, was Randolph-Henry’s No. 1 seed for singles. Eliza Walker, a junior, was seeded No. 2; McKenzie Sharpe, a senior, was seeded No. 3; sophomore Kaley Moon was seeded No. 4; junior Pearl Sandridge was seeded No. 5; sophomore Kiersten Dotten was No. 6.
