Randolph-Henry High School’s (R-H) varsity girls basketball team earned its second win of the season Friday, Jan. 24, when it defeated host Central Lunenburg High School 33-13.
“These girls came out from the jump and played well on both ends of the floor,” Lady Statesmen Head Coach D.J. Jack said. “It was 15-7 at the half, and they only committed six turnovers and rebounded the basketball like I knew they could. We outscored them 18-6 in the second half, outrebounded them 33-19 for the game and only committed 11 turnovers in the second half. We beat them the first time 36-35 in overtime and played one of the worst games we played all year, so they had something to prove.”
Taylor Trent led Randolph-Henry with 20 points and five steals. Misha Clark added seven points and six rebounds, Josie Hazelwood had three points, Brandy Hall had two points and five rebounds and Hannah Shay had one point and 13 rebounds.
“I am so pleased with the way we have been playing since we came back from Christmas break,” Jack said. “We lost two girls right after Christmas, and I think the girls that are left have stepped up and done a great job, and they have picked up their play.”
R-H (2-13), after hosting Bluestone High School on Tuesday, Jan. 28, hosts Buckingham County High School on Friday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.
