Charles Davis, the director of volunteer operations in Charlotte County, is asking area mask makers to help provide homemade face coverings for county volunteers serving as emergency personnel.

Although the case count of COVID-19 in Charlotte County is relatively low, Davis said he wants to be prepared for the long-haul of the pandemic crisis. Davis estimates he needs approximately 500 homemade masks.

Medical personnel and first responders have priority for face masks, leaving volunteers to rely on the homemade face coverings.

“The masks will be used by your Charlotte County neighbors meeting Charlotte County needs,” the release from Davis’ office said.

Anyone who can volunteer to help make masks should call the County Administration Office at 434-542-5117. Detailed instructions on mask construction and packaging will be provided. The mask makers will need to provide the cotton cloth and elastic for the masks.

Anyone with questions may also call Davis at (434) 542-5117.
