Dear Editor:

Several weeks ago, I made an appeal to the folks of Charlotte County to make homemade face masks. This was brought about because of a pressing need to provide protective masks to our volunteers.

Health professionals and first responders have priority for commercial masks.

Immediately many folks began to make face masks. Thus far, 300 masks have been made. This was no small task, since the volunteer mask makers not only gave of their time, but had to furnish their own cloth and elastic.

The response to the request for face masks did not surprise me. As I have had the opportunity to know and love many of our Charlotte County citizens, I have found them to be generous and always willing to lend a helping hand. Many in our county would be considered to be poor financially, not never poor in spirit. This kindness I have seen makes Charlotte County a great place to live.

Some of the masks have already been put to use. As I pray that our Lord will continue to spare us of the worse of this pandemic, we can be assured preparation is being made to lessen the impact. I give a heartfelt thanks to those who have responded.
