Anita Blackwell’s grandmother used to say, “Good food brings the family together.” That’s what Drakes Branch’s newest restaurant entrepreneur is hoping for when she opens Anita’s Homestyle Cooking in Drakes Branch next month.
Blackwell’s restaurant is set to open Saturday, Oct. 24 in the former Lil Debbie’s restaurant building.
Blackwell said she chose Drakes Branch as her restaurant’s location because she wanted to bring something different to the area.
“I want to have a place you can eat at and feel like home,” Blackwell said.
Anita’s Homestyle Cooking will be offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a variety of food and daily specials.
Blackwell said she learned her love of cooking from her grandmother. She started small with cooking for family gatherings, then benefit sales followed by larger catering events and now the restaurant business.
“That’s when my dreams started coming together,” Blackwell said. “I wanted something I could leave my kids to carry on my name. I decided to open a restaurant because no matter where you were or where you go, you are given a second chance. No matter what, dreams do come true.”
Blackwell said she wants her customers to know she is always open to ideas and suggestions regarding providing good food.
“I want my customers to know they are my main focus,” Blackwell said. “The love I have for what I do will provide my customers with the best experience and respect each time they enter the building.”
