Charlotte County Circuit Court Judge Kimberly S. White sentenced Jered Cody Pope, 34, on three charges of distributing methamphetamine for a second offense in Charlotte County on Wednesday, May 19.

In addition, to his sentence Pope, who is formerly of Keysville, is currently awaiting trial for threatening the life of a witness.

According to a press release from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Pope, a repeat offender, was sentenced to 20 years, with all but five years suspended on each of the three distribution, second offense charges for a total sentence of 60 years, with all but 15 years suspended.

Pope was found guilty of violating the terms and conditions of his probation and the court revoked the nine years previously suspended and suspended all but one year on the same original terms and conditions. Pope’s total active sentence is 16 years.

On the distribution charges, Pope was placed on supervised probation for a period of three years upon his release from incarceration. He was ordered to be on good behavior for a period of 45 years.

In addition, Pope was ordered to pay $890 in restitution to the Virginia State Police BCI Criminal Fund.

According to the release the charges were the result of an investigation by the Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force beginning August 8, 2019.

The task force conducted three controlled purchases from Pope in Charlotte County. The purchases ranged from 8.1793 grams of methamphetamine valued at $400 to 1.3804 grams of methamphetamine valued at $90.

It is estimated that the 8.1793-gram sale represented anywhere from 40-80 doses units of methamphetamine.
