Darlings win state championship

The Charlotte County Darlings won the 2021 Dixie Softball Virginia State Championship in Amherst this past weekend, securing a bid in the 2021 Dixie Softball World Series beginning Saturday, July 24, in Prince George. The girls remained undefeated throughout district and state tournament play. The team started off the state tournament with a win of 22-2 over Prince Edward-Farmville, followed by a win of 22-11 over Amelia Saturday. In their second game Saturday, the team rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning to win 20-19 over Appomattox. On Sunday, they beat Amherst 18-15, sending them to the championship game on Monday night to face Amelia for a second time. The Charlotte County Darlings won 16-13 in the championship game.
