The Charlotte County Amateur Radio Club participated in its annual field day the last weekend of June. Field Day is ham radio’s open house when more than 40,000 ham radio operators throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill and service to the community and the nation.

The event is produced by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. 

The goal is to operate in non-conventional situations using solar, battery, generator other creative methods of powering radios to make contacts with as many other radios around the world as possible.

This was the Charlotte County group’s first time having a field day. They met at a member’s field in Chase City. It was a time to have fun, try to make as many contacts with other amateur radio operators throughout the world, and to use other power sources for electricity. 

The club was using solar panels as long as they could and then used batteries to continue making contacts. The next field day is in January, 2022.
