Mary Lee Atkins, 79 of Charlotte Court House, passed away on Aug. 23. Mary Lee was born in Lynchburg on Feb. 10, 1942 to Floyd and Mary Wilkerson.
Mary Lee loved spending time with her husband of 33 years, Jackie Atkins, and they could very often be found working alongside each other on their beloved farm. She had a great love of the outdoors, and could often be found bottle-feeding calves, enjoying her dogs and cats, filling her birdfeeders and tending to her flowers or bountiful vegetable garden.
In addition to her love of animals and being outdoors, she was an avid reader, and loved sharing books and book recommendations with her friends and family. Mary Lee was retired from Lowes where she managed the Garden Center for over 20 years. Above all, she will be remembered as a giving, kind hearted, sweet spirited person who was always smiling, always laughing and always loving. She was a source of great strength to her children and all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
Mary Lee was preceded in death by her first husband, Skeeter Woodfin, as well as her father-in-law, Jack Atkins.
She is survived by her husband, Jackie Atkins; her children, Lee Woodfin (Tommy), Kathy McKenna Williams (Jim), and Travis Woodfin (Linda); her mother-in-law, Phyllis Atkins; her sisters, Anita White and Deborah Smith; her brother and sisters-in-law, Johnny Atkins (Donna), Vicki Atkins Tangerman and Connie Atkins Barksdale (Bruce); her grandchildren, Brooke Vander Wiele (Luke), Justin Woodfin and Lily Woodfin; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 3 p.m., at Spring Creek Baptist Church in Darlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lynchburg Humane Society Spay and Neuter Clinic
