During their 50th class reunion in 2018, R-H Class of ’68 members decided to show their appreciation and give back to Randolph-Henry by awarding grants to teachers for classroom supplies.
To date, the Fund has awarded over $8,500 to Randolph-Henry teachers.
Most recently, the Alumni Teachers Fund purchased fitness watches for RH physical education classes.
“My health and physical education classes use them (the watches) daily. The pedometers help track activity time, heart rate, the number of steps taken in a class period and so much more,” Coach Joshua Barmoy said. “Our students really love wearing them during class. We have a step goal written on the board each day that each student is required to meet. It brings great joy to see students staying active, and the pedometers also help me hold students accountable. Sometimes it even turns into a competition to see who can get the most steps within a class period.”
In addition to the fitness watches purchased this year, a storage cabinet was also secured for the culinary arts teacher’s classroom, and last year, a large aquarium was purchased for a science project.
The Class of ’68 also hosted a faculty breakfast at the school last year.
For two years, the class presented each teacher, librarian and counselor with a gift card with which to purchase supplies for instruction.
While initiated by the Class of ‘68, the Alumni Teachers Fund encourages participation by anyone who wishes to donate to help teachers at the high school improve classroom instruction by offering more and better activities for students.
