Lucky James “Hoopie” Barksdale, 76 of Phenix, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30.
He is survived by his sons, Tony Lynn Barksdale (Diane) of Keysville; James Michael Barksdale (Jo Lynn) of Charlotte, North Carolina and his daughter, Dr. Rhonda Barksdale Algeier (Austin) of Charlotte Court House; five grandchildren, Tyler Chase Barksdale, Dalton Graham Barksdale, Grace Adelaide Algeier, Austin Jett Algeier and Mazy Marie Blu Barksdale; one sister, Patricia Barksdale Harding (Jimmy) of Phenix; sister-in-law, Shirley Barksdale Blanton and sister-in-law, Lois Anne Barksdale and brother-in-law, Horace Lee Garrett.
He was born Dec. 20, 1944 in Pittsylvania County and was known for his work ethic, and love and devotion to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Locke and Iva Hall Barksdale; his beloved wife, Gracie Tolbert Barksdale; brothers, Lockie Eli Barksdale, Douglas Ray Barksdale and John Raleigh Barksdale and sisters, Emma “Dell” Barksdale Garrett and Violet Barksdale Shores.
Funeral services will be held graveside at Bethel Baptist Church on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. The Reverend Dr. Ricky Ewing will oversee services. Henderson Funeral Home, Brookneal, will coordinate arrangements.
