Last year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, The Charlotte County Christmas Parents organization accomplished what some said could not be done and provided toys for area children in need.
Again this year, in a time in which many are still hurting financially due to the pandemic, the organization is seeking donations to help make Christmas brighter for children.
According to Desiree Lee, head of fundraising for the organization, in the past two years, over 500 children have been helped.
“Last year, with generous donations, each child received several toys, a warm blanket, books, a sweater or sweatshirt and a stocking of goodies,” Lee said. “A raffle was held to give away ten bikes. It was a blessed year.”
According to Lee, letters seeking donations have been mailed to businesses and churches asking for help by donating toys or monetary donations.
In addition, there are Christmas wrapped donation boxes located at many county businesses for citizens to drop off toy donations.
Lee said monetary donations are needed before Thanksgiving and toy donations as soon as possible so that members may begin shopping for items.
“This year may not be as bountiful,” Lee said. “The volunteers are praying, but it really is dependent on the generosity of donors.”
Donations can be mailed to Charlotte County Christmas Parents, Inc, P O Box 168, Drakes Branch, Va. 23937.
