On Tuesday, July 5, a Bacon District Volunteer Fire Department engine was returning to the station following a call for a downed tree when the operator of the truck met another vehicle in a curve.
According to Fire Chief Will Stembridge, the driver of the engine felt that the other vehicle was over too far on his side of the road.
The operator ran off the right side of the highway and overcorrected the fire apparatus.
“Luckily, no one was hurt, and the truck did not overturn,” Stembridge said. It is unknown the amount of damage to the engine, and it is being sent for disassembly to know the full extent.”
Virginia State Police are investigating the incident.
