Students and parents came out in force for a busy Monday night at the school on Oct. 17. There was a lot of excitement with parent/teacher conferences, the first PTO meeting of the school year, and the Kick-Off Celebration for the 21st Century Community Learning Center.
The 21st Century program, currently in its fifth year, provides students and families with services and experiences like field trips, after-school clubs, Saturday family events with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities and academic remediation. The program partners with community businesses, leaders, and resources throughout the year to bring enrichment and recognition to Bacon’s students.
“Taking time to visit with teachers, participate in the PTO meeting and enjoy the 21st Century Program kickoff event is important to the success of our school community,” said Bacon Principal William Pettus.
Parents and students were able to play educational games together and take them home to enjoy. A BINGO game also gave students the opportunity to win games they could keep.
“We are so glad to be able to do this for our families through the partnership of CCPS’s family engagement efforts and our school’s 21 st Century program,” explains Stefanie Nichols, Bacon’s site coordinator for the program.
Upcoming events at Bacon include the PK-1st Grade Parent Luncheon on Nov. 17 and the PTO program/holiday performance scheduled for Dec. 5.
