People from around Charlotte County crowded the sidewalks in Drakes Branch, to pay respect and celebrate Veterans Day.

On Saturday, Nov. 12, Drakes Branch VFW Post 8902 hosted what is believed to be the very first Veterans Day parade in Drakes Branch and possibly Charlotte Court House. The idea for the event originated with Julie Hamlett, wife of VFW Post 8902’s Garland H. ‘Butch’ Hamlett who is also a member of the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors. Twenty-eight groups took part in the event, including the VFW and Randolph-Henry High School.
