Spelling Bee winner named at Phenix

On Monday, Dec. 5, Phenix Elementary School held its annual Spelling Bee for students. After the homerooms held their class spelling bees, the winners participated in the school’s competition. Representing the first grade were Adalyn Holt and Brantley Stephenson. Second grade spellers were Anthony Washinton and Shauna Newcomb. Third grade contestants were Toby Spears and Lily Pillow. David Sexton and William Jackson represented fourth grade. Haley Wilmouth, Allie Holt and Ryleigh Metts represented their fifth grade class. Principal Danny Richardson served as the pronouncer. Toby Spears was declared the winner. He and Lily Pillow will advance to the County Spelling Bee in January at Central Middle School. The guest judges were Duffie Jones, Martha Tucker and Alfreda Davis.
