With the November general election nine months away, Charlotte County resident Derek Toombs is already planning to seek the Bacon/Saxe District Board of Supervisors seat.

“I have a love not only for my own family but my community,” Toombs said. “I want to see Charlotte County thrive, not only for the present time but for our future generations.”

Toombs, a husband and father of three children, is the Co-operator of Toombs Logging, Trucking and Farming and an avid supporter of youth athletic programs from volunteering as a youth baseball coach from t-ball up to the Dixie Youth World Series.

Toombs said a significant focus of his is the future of the county’s youth. “With our great school system in Charlotte County, our children should have the opportunities to pursue higher education or vocational training opportunities and be able to come back home to Charlotte County and obtain credible careers,” he added. “It is essential to bring new industry into the county and support the existing businesses that have been a major part of our county’s development. With more industry in the county, we should expect lower taxes.”

When it comes to lower taxes for citizens, Toombs says with solar approved in the county, it is his objective to ensure that the money promised to the county is distributed in the correct manner. “My plan for this income includes: lowering real estate taxes, supporting crucial services such as Fire/EMS, First Responders, and Law Enforcement, supporting our local school, and bringing more industry into the county.”

Being a firm supporter of our first responders, EMS/fire department, and law enforcement. Toombs said he believes these entities should grow more robust, with the support of our county, by their side. “I believe Charlotte County should support our rescue squad wholeheartedly,” Toombs said. “This service is instrumental in helping our county residents and providing critical support for our citizens.

Will Garnett currently holds the Bacon/Saxe District Board of Supervisors seat and serves as the board’s Vice-Chairman. Garnett has not announced if he will seek the re-election.
