On Thursday, April 6, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office launched a manhunt for 24-year-old Randy Lee Marable Jr. following an attempt to locate from Mecklenburg County.
Marable had several felony warrants for burglary, aggravated assault and a protective order. Despite officers’ attempts to locate him at his parents’ home, Marable was not found until around 11:30 a.m. when he was spotted next to an alleged stolen car.
Marable fled on foot, prompting the lockdown of Bacon District Elementary School and a shelter in place for nearby residents.
“(We had) a modified lockdown at Bacon from the time we were notified about the situation,” Charlotte County Superintendent Robbie Mason said. “Classes went on as usual, other than children had to stay inside and in their classrooms.”
Mason added that deputies from the Sheriff’s Office and Bacon District’s security officer were on site. Parents were also notified of the lockdown through SchoolReach calls.
“The lockdown ended when we were notified that the suspect was apprehended,” Mason said.
Officers later discovered that Marable had a handgun in the stolen car.
Around 2:45 p.m. a citizen driving on Deupress Store Road noticed Marable walking alongside the roadway and contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
Officers arrested Marabel without incident.
