Charlotte County VFW Post 8902 worked to pick-up trash on the Vietnam Veterans stretch north of the Town of Drakes Branch on Sunday, June 4. The group picked up 32 bags of trash along the roadway.
Last year, Del. James E. Edmunds successfully introduced an amendment that increased the minimum fine for littering in Virginia from $250 to $500. The amendment was aimed at creating greater awareness and accountability around littering. “We can do better,” Edmunds said. “It screams of disrespect and it is not good for economic development.”
The Code of Virginia makes littering or dumping trash a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to 12 months in jail and/or a fine up to $2,500.
