Mattie Roselle Anderson Robinson peacefully transitioned to be with our Lord early Tuesday morning, June 6, at her home in Bowie, Maryland. Ms. Robinson was born in 1922, in Charlotte Court House, the eldest of three children born to the late Elisha Anderson and Ellen Shepperson Anderson.
After high school she relocated to Washington, D.C., where she graduated from Miner Teacher’s College (now UDC). She married Christopher Collins Robinson Sr. and from that union was born her only child Christopher Collins Robinson Jr.
Highlights of her 100+ years include: 31 years teaching with the Baltimore City School System; President of the Nannie Helen Burroughs School in Washington, D.C.; Managing Editor of THE WORKER magazine; Editor of THE BAPTIST PROGRESS newspaper; 1st Black female President of the D.C. Baptist Convention; Campaign Manager for the late former D.C. Councilman William Spaulding; 75+ years of active membership at DC’s historic Shiloh Baptist Church and 60+ years of impactful community service and political activities aimed at improving the quality of life for ALL people.
Although much of her active adult life was spent in Washington, D.C., her heart and soul always belonged to Charlotte Court House. Ms. Robinson was a kind and sweet soul that will be sorely missed.
To cherish her memory are her son, Dr. Christopher C. Robinson Jr. and daughter-in-law, Karolyn Robinson; granddaughter, Christina Robinson; along with a host of other relatives, associates and friends. Her Celebration of Life Service was held Wednesday, June 21, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1500 9th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. Visitation began on Thursday, June 22, at St. Louis Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with interment in the church cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at JeffressFuneralHome.com.
