In the wee hours of the morning on December 12, 2023, Gloria Denese Brogdon stepped into the light to meet her Heavenly Father face to face. Gloria was born on March 25, 1958, to the late Oscar and Ruth Brogdon. She joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Drakes Branch at an early age and was an active member until her illness. She attended Charlotte County Public Schools and graduated in 1976. She was a proud alumna of Bowie State University, where she cultivated her love for journalism and videography. She later obtained her Master’s Degree. She achieved career success in Oklahoma as an educator of middle and high school and college students. Although proud of her career accomplishments, she’d say that her greatest achievement was her daughter, Shannon and the special bond they shared.
After living in Oklahoma from 1995 to 2005, Gloria and her family moved back to Virginia, settling in Aylett and later Gloria returned to Saxe to care for her Mom during her time of illness.
In her free time, when not making jewelry, she could be found riding her motorcycle, who she affectionately named, “Pearlie”, or listening to her favorite music, taking making jewelry courses, and working on various projects in her home studio. She loved Native American and Southwestern culture, the ocean, collecting shells, wearing Western boots and turquoise-silver jewelry (much of her own creations).
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, stepson, William (Billy) W. Grantham, Jr., and special cousin, like a sister, Charlene R. Faulkner. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted daughter, Shannon; grand-cat, Sasha; stepdaughter, Tosha Y. Grantham; stepson, Steven A Grantham; brother, Oscar L. Brogdon, Jr. (Montell); nieces, Tanika Brogdon, LaTasha Hamilton (Sheldon); nephew, Oscar L. Brogdon 11 (Chauntay); great nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
Celebration of Life Services was held at 12 p.m., Friday, December 22, 2023 at Shiloh Baptist Church, Drakes Branch, with interment in the church cemetery. Service of Comfort was provided by Dupee’s Funeral Home, Drakes Branch.
