**UPDATE: We now have more information about the Old Kings Highway case. Click here. **
One person is dead and others were taken to the hospital after a wreck Monday night on Old Kings Highway in Keysville. Virginia State Police (VSP) officials said Tuesday morning they’re still investigating the case, which happened in the middle of a night filled with thick fog. Multiple weather-related wrecks were reported across the region as a result.
In this case, VSP Public Relations Manager Matthew Demlein said troopers were called out at 10:05 p.m. Monday for an accident involving a Toyota Scion and a logging truck. There was reportedly at least one other vehicle involved in the incident, but that has not been confirmed by VSP. This took place in the 3100 block of Old Kings Highway (or Route 360).
Demlein confirmed there was at least one fatality, one of the passengers in the Scion. That person’s identity is not being released because the victim is under 18. Multiple others, including everyone else in the Scion, were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Central Middle School sent out a message to all parents of current students on Tuesday, confirming that a student had died and offering support if any student needed counseling as a result of the situation.
Demlein said there were no other details available at this time. You can check back here later this week, where we’ll have an update if there’s any further information.
