A vehicle fire on Monday, Feb. 26, caused a portion of land to burn and two fire departments called to extinguish the blaze. But what caused the Kings Highway fire?
According to Bacon District Fire Chief Will Stembridge, a vehicle became stuck and as they were spinning trying to get the car out, a fire started. The fire happened along Kings Highway in Wylliesburg and burnt about ¼ of an acre, Stembridge said.
In addition to Bacon District, the Drakes Branch Fire Department responded to the blaze.
Though this fire was started by a vehicle, citizens are reminded that the 4 p.m. burning law is in effect until April 30.
No burning until after 4 pm is allowed if within 300 feet of woodland or grass brushland leading into woodlands. The fire must always be attended to if within 150 feet of woodland or grass or brushland leading into woodlands.
