Last month, Vietnam Veteran’s Day was recognized on March 29. That got one Charlotte County couple thinking about other veterans and now they are seeking to recognize those from the county who served in Vietnam.
According to Kaye and David Lucado, over 200 men and women from Charlotte County served in Vietnam and they are on a mission to find the names of people who lived in Charlotte County during the 1960s and 1970s and served in the military and were “boots on the ground” during the war.
Kaye is a former History and Government teacher at Randolph Henry and David served in Vietnam from 1970-71.
“These brave men and women need to be remembered,” said Kaye.
Kaye said that when the local VFW had a program on March 29 for Vietnam Veterans Day very few people attended and it caused them to pause and think.
“David and I realized how so many soldiers were not recognized for their service in Vietnam,” she said. “We started looking for names and realized only those who died are listed. I think it is important to remember all who served in Vietnam and having taught history, I hope we can get a list of names together to put in the library, etc so people will remember these men in the future.”
Anyone with names of those who served in Vietnam is urged to text names to (434) 470-6244.
