The Charlotte County Master Gardeners have accepted the Trex Recycling Challenge! The group will earn a bench for Margy’s Garden behind the library in Charlotte Court House by collecting 1000 pounds of plastic film in a year. The challenge began on May 17 and will run until June 16, 2025 or until 1000 pounds is collected and submitted for recycling.

There are collection boxes in Keysville beside the Town Office and at the bottom of the ramp at Ash Camp Baptist Church, in Phenix beside the book drop at the Charlotte County Library, and in Charlotte Court House near the back door of the Extension Office.

WHAT CAN BE RECYCLED?

Clean, dry plastic film free of food residue. This includes plastic grocery bags, bread bags (with crumbs shaken out), bubble wrap, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, plastic shopping envelopes, clean and crumb-free Ziploc bags, case overwrap, salt bags, pallet wrap, and produce bags.

WHAT CANNOT BE RECYCLED?

Trex will only accept clean, dry stretchy plastic film. These items should not be placed in the boxes: Frozen food bags, candy bar wrappers, chip bags, net or mesh produce bags, pet food bags, compostable bags, pre-washed salad mix bags, meat wrap packaging, six-pack rings, plastic gloves or other protective PPE, pool covers, lamination film, silage and hay bags, vinyl shower curtains or tablecloths, bedding/linen packaging, and shiny/crinkly films.
