The Boydton pollinator project drew attention earlier this month. Held at the Joseph SJ Tanner Center, the Pollinator Garden Program on Saturday, July 13 brought in participants from around the region. They all came to learn about the different types of pollinators. There was fun and games for all ages, including a scavenger hunt and educational exhibits. Gale Washburn gave a lecture about native plants.

The pollinator gardens, planted by volunteers in 2023, were also showcased. Participants were able to walk around the gardens and see the progress over the last year. Plant labels were posted to help them identify the plants.

The Boydton pollinator project focuses on native plants but also incorporates other plants that the pollinators enjoy. There were plenty of blooms to see, including Rudbeckia, Heliopsis, Russian Sage, Echinacea, Golden Rod, Mountain Mint and Zinnia.
