A phone call from a concerned citizen earlier this month led to an interesting series of events in Charlotte and Lunenburg counties. The incident happened on Wednesday, Aug. 14, as an anonymous caller identified only as a ‘concerned citizen’ called the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, saying someone was damaging the outdoor heat pump/air conditioning unit of an unoccupied residence nearby. The citizen was able to give a description of the person, that suspect’s vehicle and a license plate number.
Charlotte County deputies went out in response to the area, to try and locate the person in question. They spotted the identified vehicle traveling down Kings Highway. The suspect was in the driver’s seat and attempted to elude deputies, turning off King’s Highway onto a gravel driveway. The vehicle was found soon after, abandoned in a wooded area. That’s when the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit was brought in, to help in tracking the suspect. Deputies later found and arrested 48-year-old Drakes Branch resident Joshua Shea Bybee.
But the case didn’t end with Bybee’s arrest. Instead, Charlotte County deputies say they’ve found enough evidence to link him as a suspect with multiple vandalism and larceny charges in Charlotte and Lunenburg counties.
