It was a test of endurance just as much as memory. After 25 rounds on Tuesday, Jan. 28, Charlotte County Public Schools had their spelling bee champion. Eighth grader Katelynn Sexton spelled “castle” correctly in the final round to take home the title. The Central Middle School student was joined in the winners’ circle by runner-up and Eureka Elementary third grader Delilah Routt.
“Thank you to all the participants for their hard work, and to everyone who came out to support! “ District staff said in a statement.
Also taking part in this year’s district spelling bee were Kymber Hylton and Audrina Covington from Bacon District Elementary, Hallie Meeks and Claire Sexton from Phenix Elementary, Aubrey Barton from Eureka Elementary and Cassie Merinar from Central Middle School. Sexton will move on to represent Charlotte County Public Schools in the next round, which will be held in February.
