A Keysville resident and Randolph-Henry High graduate was part of Hampden-Sydney College’s team competing at the Liberty Open. Hosted by Liberty University at the school’s Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, a total of six Tigers took part in the long-distance track events.
That included sophomore Jefferson Duffey, who ran in the 800-meter race and finished with a new collegiate-best time of 2:27:01. That placed him 120th out of 127 competitors on the day. Duffey, the son of Jeff and Melissa Duffey, is a 2023 graduate of Randolph-Henry who served as Class President and won both All-District and team Runner of the Year as a high school senior. The Keysville resident plans to major in foreign affairs at Hampden-Sydney.
Several of his teammates also competed at the Liberty Open, including fellow sophomore Jackson Herndon, who finished 49th with a time of 2:01:13. Other Tigers competing in the 800 included senior Kade Minton, with a time of 2:15:48, finishing 109; senior Kevin Busch at 2:37:58 and 126 and sophomore James Cosenza at 2:54:57 and 127th place.
Additionally, sophomore Kam Maldonado participated in the indoor mile (5:01.26, 103rd).
H-SC will compete again at the Joe Larocco Invitational hosted by Roanoke College on Saturday, February 15, at the Bast-Cregger Fieldhouse in Salem.
