If you’ve driven by Bacon District Elementary in the last few weeks, you’ve noticed something different. Outside the school, for the first time in its history, is an official sign. 

“They have never had a sign,” said Karen Thompson. She serves as Instructional Data Coach for Charlotte County Public Schools. “The Woodmen of the World made the donation.” 

And after getting the supplies, Thompson herself went to work, both designing and creating the sign. For someone who has a personal connection to the school, putting this up meant a lot. 

“It feels good seeing it there,” Thompson added. “I attended Bacon District as a child and it feels good to see the school progressing.” 

In a statement, school officials thanked the Woodmen of the World and Thompson for their efforts in making this project come to life. 

“The new sign serves as a welcoming symbol for students, staff, and the community, reflecting the school’s pride and spirit,” the school’s statement said.
