What does the data say? Charlotte sheriff details crime statistics

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office was busy during the first quarter of 2025. Charlotte Sheriff J.R. Grissom released statistics from Jan. 1 to April 1 this past week, detailing the work done by his department.
“These efforts are greatly appreciated and wouldn’t be possible without the continued relentless dedication and vigilance of our deputies and investigators that put in countless hours around the clock to ensure the safety of our community,” Grissom said in a statement posted to the department’s social media pages.
Charlotte sheriff details traffic, investigations
Looking at the data, first we have details on the traffic component. During the first quarter of 2025. Deputies with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office conducted 1,294 traffic stops on vehicles in the county this quarter. Of those traffic stops 8 summonses were issued for vehicles traveling reckless by a speed of 20 mph or more over the posted speed limit. During the same period in 2024, there were 743 traffic stops but dramatically more related to reckless driving. In the first quarter of 2024, there were 125 traffic stops related to reckless driving.
As for criminal investigations, there have been 10 search warrants obtained and executed this quarter, compared to nine a year ago. Out of those search warrants and traffic stops, one person was charged with abduction by force/threat of bodily harm, another faces charges of abuse or neglect of a child, one faces grand larceny charges, one was charged with strangulation and one with unauthorized use of a vehicle, among others.
The data also shows there have been 76 felony warrants and 49 misdemeanor warrants obtained and served during the first quarter in Charlotte County. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office also served 20 warrants consisting of misdemeanors, felonies, capias for other jurisdictions. The execution of these warrants led to the arrest of 97 people here in the county.
Animals, patrols and businesses
On the animal side of things, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office K-9 division responded to 29 calls during the first quarter. That consisted of missing persons, narcotic detection and the division also responded to calls assisting other jurisdictions.
The data also shows that deputies and Investigators conducted 987 business checks and 548 patrol checks this quarter.
“Deputies with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office work diligently to prevent and deter larcenies and property crimes,” the sheriff said in his statement.
