Bobby Leslie HamletteBobby Leslie Hamlette, 83 of Charlotte Court House, passed away on Saturday, May 31, at his home. He was born on Nov. 19, 1941, in Charlotte County, where he lived for most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Ruth Hamlette.

He is survived by his wife of 64 1/2 years, Elaine Short Hamlette; his four children, Leslie Matthews (Rick) of Tampa, Florida, Bryan Hamlette (Susan) of Cullen, Laura Hamlette (David Forlines) of Halifax, and Barry Hamlette (Rhonda) of Farmville; five grandchildren, Corinne Daly, Kaleigh D’Amato, Blake D’Amato, Jordan Finch and Paul Hamlette; eight great-grandchildren; five siblings, Acie Hamlette (Alma), Catherine Shorter, Peggy Davis, Jimmy Hamlette (Anne) and Jerry Wayne Hamlette (Brenda); and numerous nieces and nephews, with whom he was very close.

He was a longtime member and deacon at Bethel Baptist Church, Phenix. He enjoyed attending church functions and family reunions, where he was renowned for his famous coleslaw served in the green bowl. He was a skilled craftsman, a talented musician and loved singing with his sister, Peggy. He cherished spending time with his family, spoiling his grandchildren, and left this world doing what he loved most: riding on the lawnmower.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5, at 3 p.m., at Bethel Baptist Church in Phenix with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on the day of service. A public viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 4 from 1 – 6 p.m. Condolences may be expressed at www.JeffressFuneralHome.com.
