February was Reading Month at Phenix Elementary School. There were many school wide events such as the Scholastic Book Fair, the Mark Daniel Reading Assembly, special dress up days and a birthday party for Dr. Seuss. At the birthday party assembly, Happy Birthday was sung and each child got a piece of birthday cake.
During the assembly, the top three readers from each classroom were recognized. Each received a homework pass and a reading certificate. The class that read the most books for the month was recognized. The class that read the most books from Pre-K through second grade was Mrs. Rhonda Poindexter’s first grade class, and the class from third through fourth grade that read the most was Mrs. Jill Brinkley’s fourth grade class.
Each of these classes will get to visit the Charlotte County Library branch, located in Charlotte Court House and get a free ice cream cone at the Scoop. Each student received a new Scholastic paperback book.
