ARTIST RECEPTION, 5-7 p.m. at the Pamplin Depot. The reception will be held for local artist June Martin Taylor. Her work is currently displayed in the Community Room of the Pamplin Depot where it will remain through the month of April. Light refreshments will be served by the Pamplin Area Legacy Supporters. Members of the public are invited to attend.

April 14

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE CAUCUS, 10 a.m. at the Drakes Branch Municipal Building.

USDA FOOD BANK, 10-11:45 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Red House. This food bank is for members of the Phenix and surrounding Red House community. USDA food may only be received at one site. April 15

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Red House. Prayer and Praise Service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Keith Jennings of Second Buffalo Baptist Church in Long Island will be the guest minister, along with his choir, ushers and congregation. Lunch will be served after the morning worship service. Theme colors are navy blue and yellow.

GUEST SPEAKER, 2:30 p.m. at the Charlotte County APVA. Bob Flippen will present a powerpoint program A Historical Journey Along the Appomattox River. Refreshments will be served following the program. Everyone is welcome.

APRIL 19

BLOOD DRIVE CANCELED, There will be no blood drive at the Drakes Branch Municipal Building for the month of April due to Red Cross staffing issues. For any questions or concerns, contact Jerris Wells (434) 568-3090.

April 20

TURKEY CONTEST REGISTRATION, 7 p.m. at the Red House Volunteer Fire Department. The contest will be held April 21-28. Must have a valid hunting license and 10 registered to hold the contest. For more information, contact Diane Lee (434) 610-0783 or Shannon Joy (434) 665-4610.

April 22

BUILDING FUND PROGRAM, 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Wylliesburg. Various groups will appear to render the music. All are welcome.

April 27

HEAD START RIBBON CUTTING, 10 a.m. at Charlotte Head Start/Early Head Start Center in Charlotte Court House.

April 27-29

ANNUAL CATFISH TOURNAMENT, 8 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Brookneal Boat Ramp on the Staunton River. On-site registration will be held at the Brookneal Boat Ramp 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Children under 12 may fish with a parent or guardian without being registered, but will not be eligible for prizes. This event is sponsored by the Staunton River Masonic Lodge #155.

WOMEN’S PRAYER BREAKFAST, 9 a.m. at Mossingford Baptist Church in Saxe. The speaker will be educator and professor at Virginia University of Lynchburg, Hezetine Foster. All women are invited.

April 29

ECOLOGY CLUB ANNIVERSARY, 3-4:30 p.m. on the blacktop behind Eureka Elementary School. The club will celebrate 10 years and former and current Ecology Club students will be recognized. The event will include an open trail.
